The Canadian Hydrogen Convention recently made history as the first major exhibition and conference in North America to be powered by hydrogen. Held at the Edmonton Convention Centre from April 25-27, 2023, the event was a landmark moment, marking the first time the venue used hydrogen in its operations.

Hydrogen, recognized for its role in reducing carbon emissions, is central to the decarbonization strategies of many advanced economies. This event contributed significantly to Alberta's growing hydrogen industry, demonstrating the potential of hydrogen in large-scale events and business gatherings.

ATCO played a key role, with Lance Radke emphasizing their commitment to innovative energy solutions for a net-zero future. Similarly, Certarus, with Richard Cheng at the helm, provided the hydrogen product and blending technology, showcasing hydrogen's viability in reducing the carbon footprint of large events.

The Canadian Hydrogen Convention is the largest hydrogen-specific B2B event, attracting over 6,000 attendees and 2,500 conference delegates annually. It serves as a critical platform for the Canadian supply chain to discuss the role of hydrogen in achieving net-zero emissions by 2050 and to explore innovations in low-carbon hydrogen production, energy infrastructure, and storage.

The Edmonton Convention Centre, under the management of Emma Pietroleonardo, has been a pioneer in sustainable innovations, having installed Canada’s largest building-integrated solar photovoltaic array. Fueling the event with a hydrogen blend was another step towards sustainable innovation.
